DNA- Genetics and Evolution

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sculpture

Aim: I want to find out for myself how to make a DNA sculpture with clay.

Equipment:

Air-dry clay
Some spare time

How did I make my sculpture?

Step one: Go to a craft shop or a dollar store to buy some of your desired clay.

Step two: Roll the clay until it is a slim 'log', I did this with both pieces.

Step three: Make a spiral (double helix) with the clay. I made sure that they interlocked with each other and that I pressed down so they would stick together.

Step four (extra step): I added little balls on top so that it would look more 3D. I also added balls in the middle.

Discussion/ Evaluation

What went wrong?
I brought a packet of actual air dry clay that was brown but it kept breaking apart and it wasn't working with me. I was going to give up but then I went to a dollar store and found kids remodelling clay. That is the clay I used to do my project and it worked, I like my creation.

What went right?
When I brought the new clay it all worked out from there.

What will I do next time to improve it?
Next time I would make it bigger and make it more like a double helix.
