How long do Canterbury mudfish grow and what are their predators?


  • They have been found as long as 17.5cm in length.
  • One of their predators is an introduced species of fish called mosquitofish.
  • One other predator is another introduced species called the Koi Carp from Japan.

What are we doing to help the Canterbury mudfish?


  • People have set up pages with some advice on what to do and some people have set up charities for the fish.
  • Some advice from some pages are if there is wetland around your farm/house fence it off and try control the weeds in the wetland and around it.
  • Some of the charities of the Isaac conservation here are some websites I could find.

What do the Canterbury mudfish eat and where do they live?
  • What I gather Canterbury Mudfish live in swampy grasslands in Canterbury New Zealand.
  • Also swamp forest, slow-flowing streams and drain, all throughout the Chatham Islands.
  • The Canterbury Mudfish eat watermilfoil, red pondweed and watercress.

why I think it is important to keep the Canterbury mud-fish alive and on this earth,
They are cute, wiggly and they are probably the closest thing we have is a snake in the wild in New Zealand, so we need to keep it a life and it eats the food other animals and fish do not.
